Rwanda visa on arrival and fee-free entry are not the same thing

Rwanda's official support guidance says an entry visa can be applied for online or upon arrival for people coming from anywhere in the world, including at Kigali International Airport and all land borders. That is the broad access rule.

Rwanda also separately publishes categories that are free of charge or visa-free under its current regime. That includes certain nationalities on a 90-day list and visa-waiver logic that covers countries with arrangements including African Union, Commonwealth, and La Francophonie terms in the current visitor visa framework.

Standard Rwanda visitor visa fees and validity

Rwanda's visitor visa page lists the core tourist-style visitor visa at USD 50 for single entry and USD 70 for multiple entries. The same page states validity of 30 days for single entry and 90 days for multiple entry in the relevant visitor category.

Rwanda also lists additional visitor-type categories, so the right visa depends on what you are doing in the country. If your purpose is not a simple visit, use the official visa-type menu instead of assuming the holiday category fits.

Rwanda publishes a visitor pass for East African Community citizens that is issued upon arrival at the border post and is valid up to six months. That is a different route from the standard visitor visa.

Rwanda also separately lists the East Africa Tourist Visa at USD 100 for travelers using the regional tourism agreement. If your trip is genuinely a Rwanda-Uganda-Kenya tourism circuit, compare that route before paying for multiple national visas.

How Rwanda's Irembo application flow works

Irembo says Rwanda visa applications can be filed with or without an account, and gives a published processing time of four days. Common attachments are an application letter, a copy of the passport biodata page, and a photo with white background, though the exact list depends on visa type.

Irembo also says applicants who are unsure about the right visa type should contact Rwanda immigration before applying. That is the correct move for any case that is not a plain short visit.
